Assam: through Epochs
UI/UX
Data Visualization
4 Weeks
An interactive, research-based data visualization that documents the impact of gentrification and modernization on urban and semi-urban Assam through an immersive digital walkthrough.

What is this project about?
The project examines how cities transform over time by comparing their past, present, and future landscapes. It highlights the cultural, socio-economic, environmental, and architectural shifts that shape urban life, revealing how communities evolve and how something like architecture both reflects and influences these changes.
How it all started:
I began by exploring ideas around urbanization and cultural change. During my research, I came across the term gentrification, which perfectly described the changes I’ve seen in my state, Assam — from the displacement of communities to shifts in architecture, traditions, and infrastructure.
Beginning with the Research
After choosing Assam as my focus, I began identifying the key elements driving its cultural and socio-economic transformation.
I compiled aspects that shape its evolving identity — from traditional practices and community life to changing patterns in architecture and urban planning.

Why Architecture?
While exploring what shapes a place’s identity, I found architecture to be a visible marker of change, reflecting socio-economic trends, policies, and culture. Locals and architects confirmed Assam’s evolving skyline, homes, and public spaces. Here are some popular examples of Assamese architecture:

And hence; the final vision was to create- a project which examines how gentrification in Assam reshapes architecture, influencing cultural identity, socio-economic structures, and environmental landscapes over time.
Final Concept
Step into a timeless journey through a charming Assamese town, where every corner whispers stories of its evolving past.
